BOCA RATON, FL – June 24, 2015 – Taran Burrell was awarded the Ken A. Day Scholarship at a June 5th awards banquet held at the Mizner Park Cultural Arts Center in Boca Raton.
Taran was chosen for his academic performance and participation in extracurricular activities, as well as his educational and career goals.
As a student of the Boynton Beach Community High School Aerospace and Science Academy, Taran states he developed a “drive to pursue a major and a career in the aeronautic field.” It’s this ambition that led him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering at the University of Central Florida.
Upon graduation, Taran says he hopes to “become a part of the new generation of leaders to bring the field of aerospace to a new and robust era.”
The Ken A. Day Scholarship was established in 2013 following the passing of longtime, beloved Boca Raton Airport Manager Ken A. Day. The scholarship was founded to honor Mr. Day by assisting Palm Beach County students pursuing aviation careers.
Each year since the scholarship’s inception, the Boca Raton Airport Authority has donated to the fund.
The George Snow Scholarship Fund, a Boca Raton-based 501(c) 3 Public Charity, administers the Ken A. Day Scholarship. The Scholarship provides educational grants to some of the areas brightest and most deserving young scholars. These scholarships are four-year commitments and are designed to bridge the gap between other financial aid and what the scholar and their families can afford.
