The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recently issued new rules on the operation of recreational drones and expanded the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) system to include Boca Raton Airport  (BCT). The LAANC system allows drone pilots to obtain near real-time airspace authorizations if the user intends to fly below certain pre-approved altitudes in controlled airspace. Drone pilots planning to fly under 400 feet in controlled airspace around airports must receive an airspace authorization from the FAA before they fly. The LAANC capability is available to pilots operating under the Small UAS Rule Part 107, or under the exception for Recreational Flyers.

For more information on LAANC, please visit the FAA website here.

For pilots looking to manually apply for authorization to fly, please visit the FAA Drone Zone here. Contacting or notifying the control tower is no longer required.

For a complete list of all available airports currently included in the LAANC system, please see the published list here.
