Ground handling

Making air travel as easy as possible, two full-service Fixed Base Operators (FBOs) are located at the Airport. Each FBO offers a range of amenities, such as fueling, ground handling, aircraft storage, conference rooms, catering, and limousine service.

In 2018, the Airport opened an onsite Customs and Border Protection facility, enabling international flights to fly directly into the Boca Raton Airport instead of first stopping at another airport to go through customs. By eliminating this stop before arrival, the number of low altitude flights will be greatly decreased, which enhances safety for pilots, passengers, and individuals on the ground in and around the Airport.

A true asset for the State of Florida, the Airport encompasses 214 acres between Spanish River Boulevard and Glades Road. The Airport’s runway 5/23 is 6,276 feet long and 150 feet wide, with a full-length 40-foot wide parallel taxiway.

To maintain safe and organized air traffic, there is an FAA Contract Tower located on the field. The Tower is open daily from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, and manned with a team of highly trained, professional air traffic controllers.

Engineered Materials Arresting System (EMAS):
Installed in 2017 at the end of the runway, this FAA-approved system consists of lightweight, crushable concrete blocks designed to decelerate aircraft that overrun, undershoot, or veer off the runway. As of 2025, 122 such EMAS beds are operational at 70 U.S. airports, having successfully stopped at least 24 aircraft nationwide and preventing potential harm to hundreds of passengers and crew.
Runway Safety Areas (RSAs):
The runway includes standard FAA-compliant safety overruns to provide additional stopping distance, enhancing protection for operations in a constrained environment.
Air Traffic Control and Emergency Response:
The airport operates a control tower established in 2000, facilitating instrument procedures and monitoring.
Safety Recognition and Programs
Boca Raton Airport has been recognized for its commitment to safety excellence. In February 2025, it received the 2023 General Aviation Safety Award from the FAA’s Southern Region Airports Division, presented at the Southern Region Airports Conference in Atlanta. This accolade highlights the airport’s “Soaring with Safety” campaign, which achieved 100% participation in its voluntary Safety Management System (SMS). The initiative encompasses proactive hazard identification, risk mitigation, enhanced tenant communication, data-driven decisions, regular training programs, public service announcements, an annual Safety Week, and a dedicated SMS Safety Manual with semi-annual newsletters.

  • The Boca Raton Airport Observation Area is located adjacent to the Airport Authority’s administrative building at 903 NW 35th Street, Boca Raton, FL 33431. Visitors driving Northbound or Southbound on FAU Blvd will turn into the lot on NW 35 Street and head West until they arrive at the administrative building.

  • With more than 80,000 operations (landings and takeoffs) annually, there is consistent traffic at the Boca Raton Airport.

  • There is one runway. Planes can land or take off southwest or northeast depending on wind direction.
