Park with shaded area and people watching airplanes

On January 28, 2025, our Airport opened a unique space designed to bring the community closer to aviation: the Observation Area. One year later, it has welcomed over 8,000 visitors and become a hub for aviation enthusiasts, families, and community members, offering a blend of learning, leisure, and fun

The Observation Area is the only structure of its kind in Palm Beach County, featuring a circular 360-degree viewing design.

It’s comfortable and accessible, with shaded cover, weather-resistant materials, ADA-compliant access, seating, and lighting.

Educational signage and live air traffic control radio create an immersive experience, while nearby wildlife, including owls and turtles, adds a touch of nature.

Open from sunrise to sunset, it’s ideal for exploring aviation, enjoying the outdoors, or spending time with family.

Bicyclists can also extend their visit along the scenic El Rio Trail, which is located under one mile away from the Observation Area.

The Flocking Event

Over the past year, our Observation Area has hosted a variety of memorable events that showcase its role as a community gathering space.

One of the most colorful highlights was the Flocking Event, held in partnership with the City of Boca Raton and the Flamingo House as part of Boca Raton’s Centennial Celebration.

Dozens of flamingos flocked to the Observation Area, creating a fun installation that drew visitors from across the city to take photos and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Pumpkin Hunt

In October, we hosted our first-ever Pumpkin Hunt, a Halloween celebration created by our Airport staff. Our team decorated the space with a festive display and hid pumpkins throughout the Observation Area, inviting families and children to explore, hunt, and enjoy a seasonal activity in a unique aviation setting.

The Fly-In Food Truck Fundraiser

Other events highlighted both community and charitable engagement.

The Fly-In Food Truck Fundraiser, held with U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Air Station Miami, offered delicious food, refreshments while supporting AUXAIR Miami’s mission of search and rescue, boating safety, and environmental protection.

FAU Research Park

The Observation Area also welcomed FAU Research Park for an open house that built team connections and engagement, strengthening the Airport’s partnership with regional innovators.

Civil Air Patrol

The space has also become a source of inspiration for young aviators. During the opening ceremony of the Observation Area, an aviation student shared remarks on the space and how it can support future generations of aviation enthusiasts. We have also partnered with the local Civil Air Patrol on several initiatives, including a cleanup of the Observation Area.

These events show how the Observation Area has grown beyond a plane-watching destination to become a versatile space for the community. Families, flight fans, and local organizations can enjoy its amenities while connecting with others over shared experiences.
