In recognition of Earth Day 2017, we will be doing a three-part series on how the Boca Raton Airport strives to be energy efficient and environmentally friendly. In Part 1, we’ll look at the three ways that LEED Construction has helped us decrease our environmental impact.
3 Benefits of LEED Construction
- LEED standards require buildings to maximize natural light and to use LED and high-efficiency lighting when needed. This enables the building to decrease energy consumption by using less electricity to light interior areas.
- Water saving plumbing fixtures and the use of native and drought resistant plants and trees enables the building to decrease water usage without sacrificing the benefits of lush landscaping and garden spaces.
- By recycling the majority of construction waste, properties built to LEED standards reduce the impact of their discarded materials while providing resources for future products.
At the Boca Raton Airport Authority, we strive to be a leader in green building design and construction. The Airport Authority Administration Building has received an LEED Silver Certification, and the United States Customs and Border Protection Facility currently under construction is on track to be LEED Certified as well.
