Veterans Day Ceremony, Breakfast and Concert sponsored in part by the Boca Raton Airport
On Sunday, November 11th, the Boca Raton Airport Authority (BRAA) and the City of Boca Raton Recreation Services department are hosting a number of Veterans Day events in honor of those who served.
The festivities will begin with a Veteran Resource Fair, Special Military Tribute Breakfast and Veterans Day Ceremony at Countess De Hoernle Park, sponsored in part by the BRAA.
“It’s important for us to honor the brave men and women who serve our country,” said BRAA Executive Director Clara Bennett. “This is our chance to recognize their extraordinary contributions.”
Morning activities will start with the Resource Fair from 9AM to 9:30AM. The Fair is open to the public and will feature a dozen veteran resource organizations, as well as songs performed by the renowned American Bombshells Patriotic Services.
During the Fair, free breakfast will be provided to all veterans in uniform or with military ID. Breakfast is being sponsored in part by TooJay’s Deli, Panera Bread and Another Broken Egg Cafe. The Junior League of Boca Raton will be providing volunteer assistance with the food. All veterans are encouraged to come out and enjoy a free breakfast and the opportunity to learn about support opportunities available to them.
The Special Military Breakfast is also an opportunity for everyone to give a suggested $5 donation to Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County’s Veterans Build Initiative, which will begin on Friday, November 9th at Sand Pine Park. This Habitat for Humanity initiative will provide free home renovations to select veterans that apply.
At 9:30AM, the Veterans Day Ceremony will begin. The speaking portion will feature a number of veterans, including BRAA Vice-Chair, Retired Lt. Col. Melvin Pollock. To show appreciation for their service, City officials will present all veterans in attendance with a commemorative City medallion, which will be followed by a musical processional by the Highlanders, the Boca Raton Community High School NJROTC and the Boca Raton Police and Fire Honor Guards. The Boca Raton Community High School Band and the Coastmen Chorus will also perform.
That night, the festivities will continue with a Veterans Day Concert from 7PM to 9PM at the Mizner Park Amphitheater. The concert will feature “An American Tribute” performed by FAU’s Florida Wind Symphony, which is comprised of 42 professional musicians from throughout South Florida and is led by the distinguished Dr. Kyle Prescott. The concert is free and open to the public, making it an ideal time to honor and celebrate all who’ve served.
“The Airport’s history has been deeply intertwined with the military since the airstrip was converted into the Boca Raton Army Airfield during World War II,” said Bennett. “As we celebrate our 70th anniversary, we further affirm our commitment to honoring and supporting service members and their families.”
