This year marks the 70th Anniversary of the Boca Raton Airport.
To commemorate the occasion, there will be a number of special events and activities held throughout 2018. Many of the festivities will be open to students, aviation enthusiasts, and the general public with some events reserved for Airport tenants, personnel, and local dignitaries.
“Our tenants, staff, community supporters and neighbors have helped us become the Airport that we are today,” said BRAA Executive Director Clara Bennett. “It’s essential that we celebrate our 70th birthday with them.”
While the Airport’s legacy dates back to 1936, it was in 1948 that the Boca Raton Army Airfield was transferred from the United States of America to the Town of Boca Raton, with the provision that it be used for the benefit of the flying public. It was at that moment that the Boca Raton Airport was born.
“During the last 70 years, the Airport has transformed into a premier general aviation facility. Over the past few years alone, we’ve opened the new Administrative Building and soon, Boca Raton’s first U.S. Customs and Border Protection Facility,” Bennett said. “As we move forward into the next 70 years, we will accomplish even more, together as a community.”
Anniversaries are usually a time to look back and revisit the past, but Executive Director Bennett is using this 70th Anniversary as a springboard into the future.
